The Exhibit

Once you passed through our border, you entered a place of resistance and change, as our students asked silenced questions and, reminding us that total security is an impossible quest, drew attention to the multiple forms of violence that touch us all.

A large hanging banner asked who profits from our current trend of militarized security. Not surprisingly, the answer: smugglers and private security and arms companies. Some powerful quotes reminded us of what we give up when we search fruitlessly for perfect security, while our students revealed the violence that permeates their lives — real and virtual — in their photojournals and offered resistance in their projects on slut shaming and rape culture, oppressive images of beauty, the lack of health care for transgendered people, and the epidemic of child abuse, among others.
