Reconciliation Stories: A Dawson Peace Project (Winter 2015)

In winter 2015, to coincide with the inaugural year of the Dawson Centre for Peace Education, Inspire Solutions invited the students and staff of Dawson College to share their own experiences with peacebuilding. The response was overwhelming and the stories diverse. Some focused on intimate relationships — with one’s self, family members, romantic partners and friends; others with strangers separated by barriers of culture and language or divisions created by historical wrongs. Many are heart-wrenching, revealing the pain we can inflict; while others the human desire for peace and the possibilities that open when we reveal our vulnerabilities, show understanding and respond with care. None simplifies the difficulties involved, but all in their own way reveals the human traits that make peace possible.
